Over 800 stray dogs are now living in the area around Chernobyl, over 40 years after the nuclear disaster. The dogs have seemingly evolved to become immune to the radiation, pollution and other chemicals in the environment.

When I visited it agency organising it said we can bring food to feed them, if we want to. Dogs would often approach us, so apparently they were used to being fed by visitors.

This is categorically wrong.

They’re not immune. Resistant maybe, but not immune.

Animals reproduce and die before the effects can really harm them

What the hell are they eating to survive

Im certain none of these dogs will live to see 20 though.

Most of dogs die when winter comes.
Plus a lot died cause of war, there weren’t any donations of food.

Even if it were possible to be immune to radiation this is something that would take place over thousands of years, not 40.

They don’t live very long lives. They die young. Kyle Hill has a fantastic video about the Dogs of Chernobyl that is definitely worth a watch
they are not immune. they breed quickly and don’t live very long. animals like mice, who have short lifespans anyway, do just fine in radioactive envitonments.

From what I’ve heard there’s not much radiation nowadays. And I have no idea what “pollution and other chemicals” you are talking about.
Let alone the fact that they can’t evolve much in just few generations.
Basically those are regular stray dogs.

Yeah no they haven’t.

“Immune to radiation”, yeah sure. Every other month this dumb nonsense shows up on Reddit again. Of course there are animals because they spill over from neighboring areas. Chernobyl is still a dead zone, animals that come in will die or become ill soon enough because of the radiation.

They haven’t evolved, it’s just survivor bias. You only see the live ones.
Do they glow in the night?
Did we ever find out why they were turning blue?
“Immune” lol

Cool, mutant radioactive nuke dogs. Can we adopt them?
What could possibly go wrong?
immune to radiation lol that’s not how it works.
“Evolved” in 40 years time? What is this shite?
Doubt
More like the ones who got tumours died..
And the remaining ones will eventually die too
Over 40 years? Yeah no
I cant stop laughing 😂

Misinformation, the dogs are not immune to radiation.
“evolved” in 40 years? I understand animals like flies evolving at a fast rate, but dogs…not so much.
